Art in the Church

Christ UMC - Cross CollectionThe Value of Christian Art
During the Middle Ages the symbols and art created by prominent artists served as the Bible for the illiterate. These works were not meant to be worshipped, but to be an aid to prayer.  Michelangelo understood that images can often be more powerful than words.

As United Methodists, we value Michelangelo's statue, the Pieta, and all other art within our building for its artistic and historic significance, and invite the community to share its spiritual and prayerful impact. Please accept our invitation to view artwork between the hours of 9AM and 4PM Tuesdays through Fridays during the school year, and on Sundays before or after services. Our services are at 8, 9, and 10:30 AM during the school year, 8:30 and 10:00 AM during the summer. Please call (801) 486-5473 for Summer availability, or if you wish to schedule a docent presentation of the Pieta for groups.
