The Chancel Choir, directed by Austin Thorpe, is a warm family, whose goal is to reflect God's nature. The choir participates in worship at 9:00am and 10:30am from September through May. All voice types are welcome, and we especially encourage the hesitant singer to participate.
The choir performs a variety of literature to enhance the worship service. Musical skills will develop whether you are a beginner or advanced musician. The Chancel Choir is an excellent way to meet people and become more involved in one of the many ministries at Christ Church. Rehearsals are held in the Choir Room on Wednesday evenings from 7:00pm until 8:30pm. Childcare is provided upon request. Contact the church office with at least 24 hours notice. 801-486-5473 or Email.
The Children's Chorister Choir is an opportunity for students from grades 1 through 6 to develop one of their most precious gifts – the singing voice. The foremost goal of this group is to enable children to participate in meaningful worship, teaching them scripture, stories, and hymns while developing their musical talents so they can share something of their very own to the greater glory of God and to help proclaim His great love and Word to the congregation through song. We also strive to give the children a sense of community with the choir members and congregation.
Weekly rehearsals will be on Sunday from 11:30am-12:15pm in the Chapel. Juice and a light snack will be provided. Click here for a registration form.
Alicia Simons Is the children's choir director. You may contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Handbell Ministry
Our handbell ministry is a vital part of the music program at our church. We believe that the sound of bells and chimes enhances our worship and as a result draws us closer to God. We use two 6 octave sets of English handbells, a six octave and a five octave set of hand chimes, a two octave set of Silver Melody Bells, a two octave set of Petit and Fritsen handbells, and various other percussion instruments.
The Wesley Bell Ringers of Christ United Methodist Church are known nation-wide. They have toured in the summer every year since 1966. They have played in all 50 states and in 8 of the Canadian Provinces. The choir has been featured at National and Regional Handbell Festivals and is known as one of the premier youth handbell choirs in the United States.
Membership is open to all students from 9th grade through their freshman year in college, and is open to members of the congregation and the surrounding community. The members not only learn to play intricate handbell music, but they also raise all the funds required for tours and for equipment. Rehearsals begin in September on Sunday from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM and on Tuesday from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM. The group plays in church once a month during Sunday worship, on Christmas Eve and on Easter. The choir goes on a different tour every June, and gives a Sunday home coming concert upon their return to Salt Lake City. Katie Lay is the director. Read and hear more on their website.
apPRAISEation is the adult handbell choir. They rehearse from September through May on Thursday evenings from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM. The choir is open to any adult who would like to join. They usually play once a month during worship, and on Christmas Sunday, Christmas Eve and Palm Sunday. apPRAISEation rings a concert in May. Ed Duncan is the director. Email
