Youth At Christ UMCWhat We're About

The Youth Ministry at Christ UMC strives to give youth a sense of belonging and a sense of purpose. Youth from more than a dozen different schools gather at Christ UMC to play, learn, worship, grow, and serve together. Volunteer and paid staff join together with members of the church to make Christ UMC a place that allows teens to connect with God and each other. We work to build assets that will benefit youth to become the people God is calling them to be.

As with people of all ages, Christ church is an inclusive congregation. Every person is respected as a child of God, worthy of love, friendship, grace and inclusion in the family of Christ UMC.

Youth Sunday School

Meets on (you guessed it!) Sunday morning! We meet 9:00AM to study topics that relate to faith, church, and our lives. Youth (grades 7-12) are involved in large and small groups as they explore topics in creative ways. Questions? Call Barb McClellan at 801-792-7478.

Confirmation Class (grades 7 and up)

The word confirmation means "with firmness." Confirmation seeks to make firm what has gone before in the youth's life already, including God's grace, the nurture provided by parents and the faith community and the enduring action of God's Spirit.

As young people reach the age of accountability, they are ready to take more responsibility for their faith. Confirmation gives an invitation to claim the name Christian for themselves. They are being invited to make firm the foundation and build on it. The ultimate goal is Christian formation, being transformed--over time and through God's Spirit--into the image of Christ. The confirmation class of 2010-2011 will enjoy 9 months together exploring our United Methodist faith. We will use a book called "Claim the Name" which challenges us to consider how we can follow Christ in our lives.

Each confirmation participant is given the oppportunity on Confirmation Sunday in May to answer this invitation to a commitment to Christ United Methodist Church with their presence, prayers, service, and offerings.

Meets Sunday mornings at 9:00-10:00 September-May. Teachers:  Julie Peck-Dabling, Dick Eubanks and Barb McClellan 801-486-5473 ext 16 (Barb's email).
